Mendocino Plein Air Painting Workshop with Victoria Brooks
Saturday and Sunday, May 19 & 20, 2012 from 9 am to 4 pm.

Victoria Brooks will be teaching this impressionist oil painting workshop on location and in the studio. She will be emphasizing working quickly to simplify the landscape and capture the ambiance of the area. your completed paintings will have a fresh, spontaneous feel. Victoria will address choice of subject, technique, composition, color and values. She will give several quick demos as well as frequent constructive class critiques. This class is for all level of painters.

Victoria Brooks has been painting and teaching full time for the past 25 years after a successful career as an art director and graphic designer in television. She has won numerous "Best of Show" awards for her studio and plein air works. She teaches plein air painting workshops in California, Italy, France and Greece. The prize was established by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation and is a worldwide contemporary art prize to discover, recognize and provide long-term support to a future generation of artists. Artists around the world, without restriction of gender, nationality, or artistic medium may enter the competition through online application.

Artists under 35 may submit applications at www.futuregenerationartprize.org from February 6 through May 6, 2012.

In June 2012, a shortlist of artists will be announced. They will participate in a shortlist Prize exhibition at the Pinchuk Art Centre (Kyiv, Ukriane) in October, 2012.

The international jury will gather in Kiev in December 2012 to select one main Prize winner to be awarded USD100,000. An additional USD20,000 from the Foundation will be allotted to fund artist-in-residency programs. Images of works by all the shortlisted artists will be posted on the website, and members of the public will be invited to vote via the Internet for People’s Choice Prize.

To encourage this new generation of artists, a group of renowned Mentor Artists has committed its long-term participation in the Prize. These artists will provide in-person counsel and support to the prize winners, and one of the Mentor artists will have a parallel show at the same time as each shortlist exhibition. The 2012 Mentor Artists are Andreas Gursky, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons and Takashi Murakami.

Evergreen Washelli is accepting submissions for the 2012 Art in the Columbarium exhibition. We will be hosting up to six solo shows for local, emerging, new artists. Each solo show will run from four to six weeks. We are seeking a portfolio of original artwork that is appropriate for a columbarium setting.

Eligibility: All 2- and 3-dimensional media are acceptable – painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, mixed media, and installation.

SlowArt Productions presents the group thematic exhibition, Arte Natura. This exhibition will focus on art inspired by the natural world and will be held at the Limner Gallery from June 2 – 30, 2012. Eligible are all art forms relating to, or gaining inspiration from the world of nature. Landscapes, skyscapes, flowers, vegetables, fruits and animals are all eligible. Human images are permitted only as an elemental part of the natural environment. All artist interpretations of the natural world from the realist to the abstract and conceptual will be reviewed and considered.

ELIGIBILITY AND RESTRICTIONS: The competition is open to all artists, national and international, working in all media. All forms of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, graphics, digital and installation art, video, etc. are eligible. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older to apply. Wall mounted works must not be taller than 72" no wider than 96". Sculptural work must fit through a standard height, 36"wide entry door.

EXHIBITION AND AWARDS: Winning artists will be featured in a group exhibition at the Limner Gallery, June 2 – 30, 2012. The exhibition will also be displayed on the Limner Gallery web site. One artist will be awarded a two page display in Direct Art Volume #19, Fall 2012 issue. Two artists will be awarded a single page display. Direct Art is distributed to bookstores across the USA including Barnes and Noble.

Lark is seeking images to publish in a juried collection of handcrafted lights. The juror will be Christopher Poehlmann, owner of CP Lighting, an internationally regarded company producing handcrafted decorative light fixtures for over 20 years. 500 Lights will be published in Spring 2013. Submissions may include chandeliers, lamps, sconces, pendants, and installations. Lights must be designed and built by individual designers and/or small shops as unique objects, limited editions, or customized originals. Work may be created from any material including but not limited to: paper, metal, plastic, wood, fiber, neon, ceramic, glass, and found objects. Artists and Designers applying may utilize any method of working available to the small shop from handwork to CNC fabrication. Electric-powered lamps are preferred, though we will also consider battery-operated lamps and possibly candle-lit pieces, but absolutely no candles by themselves.
